Pastor Sue Ellen's Biography
Pastor Sue Ellen Grudt
|
Pastor Sue Ellen Grudt
was born in Lake Forest, Illinois. She has two sisters, Cathy and Amy, who live
in Port Barrington and Libertyville, Illinois, respectively, with their husbands
and daughters. Her mother, Mary Gram, lives in Lake Bluff, Illinois. Her father,
Jim, was a teacher at Lake Forest High School, from where Pastor Sue graduated in
1979. She then majored in English and studied piano at Saint Olaf College, graduating
in 1983. During college, she was blessed to spend a summer semester studying at
Cambridge University and completed an internship at WMAQ-TV, Channel 5, Chicago,
through the Chicago Urban Studies Program. She also spent four summers counseling
at Riverside Lutheran Bible Camp in Story City, Iowa.
Following her university studies, Pastor Sue Ellen taught music at The Brent International
School in Baguio City, Philippines. There, she really felt the call to pastoral
ministry, and entered The Lutheran School of Theology at Chicago in 1986. There,
she met and became good friends with Pastor Mark and Annette Boster. She married
fellow seminarian, Richard Grudt in 1989 and their daughter, Nina, was baptized
on the same day that they graduated from seminary in 1991! Sons Benjamin and Joseph
were born in 1996 and 1999. They are all fun, bright, creative, musical kids who
enjoy life a lot. The family lives in Island Lake, Illinois, which is half-way between
Pastor’s Sue’s work in Huntley and Pastor’s Rich’s hospice and church offices in
Libertyville and Waukegan.
Pastor Sue Ellen’s first call was as Associate Pastor, with Rev. Dr. John Linna,
to United Lutheran Church in Crystal Falls, Michigan. She then spent nine years
as Associate Pastor, with her husband, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Rhinelander,
Wisconsin. Now, she is very honored to be called by God to Shepherd of the Prairie,
which is a wonderfully healthy community of faith. Pastor Sue loves sharing her
musical gifts with this church, and is very excited about continuing to train leaders
and help grow small groups here. She is thrilled to experience with the congregation
the Spirit-filled transformation which this ancient, relationship-building ministry
brings.
