January 14, 2022

We encourage you to read the Bible stories for this upcoming Sunday
Isaiah 62:1-5; Psalm 36:5-10; John 2:1-11
in preparation for worship.

Adult Education

The time is now! Beginning anew this Sunday, January 16 at 10:20, and again on Wednesday, January 19 at 11:00, we embark on a new adult Bible study. During these days of Epiphany, we'll explore the biblical concept of covenant. There are many in both Old and New Testaments, but we'll focus on some of the major ones: God's covenant with all of creation, with Adam and Eve, Abraham and Sarah, Moses, David, and so on. Covenants are promises, and God loves nothing better than to make and keep promises. In addition, God also gives us signs for each covenant God makes so that we can remember and celebrate what God does for us. So, come join us either on Sunday or Wednesday. We meet in the adult education classroom at the west end of our church building. We look forward to seeing YOU! That's a promise!

PS--if you can't join us in person, you can always look for our Bible study on-line. It's sent out on Wednesday or Thursday, so look for it!

Calling all SOTP Members!!!! Here is your opportunity to enjoy a fun filled, rewarding and (all at the same time!) serving our great SOTP family at either the Saturday 5pm or Sunday 9am or 10:45am Worship services. Looking for some members that would like to be part of our Usher Team Ministry here at SOTP. This a wonderful way to give back to your church family, and only requires you to participate just once each month (what a deal!!)

Over the last couple of years, we all have seen our sanctuary closed for in-church service and had to follow various COVID restrictions. But now as we look toward better times, and we have returned to worshiping back in our sanctuary (and those pews are filling up), the need for more ushers is greater than before. And if we have enough folks on our usher teams, it may only be every other month to serve as an usher.

I can promise you that you will enjoy your time as an usher, meet many more members than you have in the past, and feel good as you meet, and greet our church goers.

So, please send an email to me (Ed Cuttle) at edschn28@comcast.net or call at 847-975-5209 and let’s talk about how you can help our congregation out by just dedicating a little extra efforts at a Sunday service (heck, you will be here anyway!).

Blessings, hope to hear from you soon!!

Ed Cuttle
SOTP Saturday/Sunday Worship Ministry Usher Coordinator

Please pick up your 2022 offering envelopes in the gathering area at Church. If you see a friend, neighbor, or relative's envelope box, you could deliver the envelopes to them as well.

Your Stewardship Committee wishes to thank all who have submitted their CY 2022 Estimate of Giving cards with their giving intentions for next year. This helps our finance team to provide input to your Council members for next year’s budgeting process for mission and ministry programs at SOTP Lutheran Church-Huntley. We asked for your prayerful response as we highlighted four key areas requiring additional funding next year: Calling a second pastor in 2022; Additional resources for our Audio/Visual programs; Additional resources for our youth and family ministries; and addition resources for our Small Group Ministries.

We are encouraged by your responses as we continue to face this evolving pandemic which tears at not only our nations fabric, but the entire world as well. We give thanks to our Lord for your continued support for our mission and ministry programs at SOTP that have a positive influence for our faith journeys going forward as the Body of Christ not only within our congregation but to our surrounding communities as well. We continue to look for ways to impact the lives of those who have greater needs than our own.

Results of our CY 2022 financial campaign versus last year’s totals are as follows:

Stewardship Report

The Count represent family giving units. This also does not include additional specific funding for other ministries outside of our General Fund and Mortgage Service Funds.

As you can see, we were 10.5% ahead of last year’s General Fund and Mortgage Service Fund totals.

Thanks be to God for His continued blessings to us as we jointly continue building a culture of generosity at Shepherd of the Prairie Lutheran Church!

Going forward, we pray that you seek to involve yourself in service to Him by using your Time & Talent gifts for which you have been blessed to enrich our congregation and reflect Christ’s love for us all.

Respectfully submitted,

Mike McCann

Stewardship Chairman

Finance Team

The Finance Team would like to remind the congregation about the following contribution items:

  1. If you use a Brokerage firm to mail in a contribution from your Brokerage account to SOTP, please let Linda Dungey (Contribution Secretary) know in advance that this contribution is being mailed in from your Brokerage firm. Often times we receive Brokerage contributions with no identifying information on the check. We are not informed of who the donor is, or how the contribution is to be applied. These are recorded as Loose offerings and donors are not aware that their contribution is not recorded on their Giving Statement unless they contact the Contribution Secretary.
  2. Please do not leave any contributions in Staff/Leaders church Mailboxes. This is an unsecured situation and we prefer that you place the contribution in an envelope with a note of who it is from, and how it is to be utilized. Drop the envelope off at the church office to be placed in the secure lockbox.
  3. SOTP only keeps financial records on members and non-members that have envelopes assigned. If you are not a member and want envelopes, contact the Church office.

Thank you for your continued support of SOTP ministries,

The Finance Team

Altar Flowers

Flowers for the Sanctuary

Joyfully, we are meeting in person for our worship services as well as doing our online services. We continue to ask you to please consider signing up to donate flowers to brighten up the sanctuary. As normal, each arrangement is $50.

The bouquets are delivered from the florist for the weekend worship services. You can pick up your flowers after the Sunday services or on the Monday following. The church is open from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.

If you are interested in donating flowers, please contact Diane Mollis at dem910@outlook.com . Provide your name, address, phone number, for whom the flowers are dedicated to or in memory of, and which Sunday you are interested in displaying the bouquet. If you have any questions, you may call Diane at 224-654-6677.

Thank you for saying yes to flowers for the sanctuary!

Friends Bible Study

Friends Bible Study
Mondays from 12:30-2:00
Willow Room
Shepherd of the Prairie Lutheran Church

Have you wanted to learn more about David and his life as a young man and later as King? Join the women in Friends Bible Study and enter into lively discussions as we journey through the book of 2 Samuel which covers the life of King David.

Be Successful, by Warren Wiersbe, is the guide-book for our meetings. This commentary leads us through the Old Testament Book, 1Samuel. First Samuel is a book about success and failure, both in individuals and the nation of Israel. David was a success by his character, conduct and service. “He was a man after God’s own heart.”

Friends Bible Study meets each Monday throughout the year and everyone is welcome every week.

With the intent to provide our church members with additional information and encourage open dialog, our monthly council report will be posted on our website each month. This document will show minutes of the past council meeting, full financials, attendance charts and various ministry meeting minutes. Check out the December, 2021 Council Report. We've also designed a simple feedback form to share your questions, concerns or comments. Let us know what you’re thinking.
